Make An Avocado Smoothie In 4 Simple Steps

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Sweetener: You can use anything sweet. From maple syrup to cocoa powder depending on what floats your boat.

Extra Add-ins: If you want the best smoothie possible and to have more nutrients in your smoothie I recommend that you add in frozen blueberries, frozen bananas, almond butter, fresh spinach (and other veggies), cashews, chia seeds, peanut butter (or any kind of nut butter), flax seed, protein powder or vanilla protein powder. I especially use frozen bananas because they are high in potassium. Also, if I am choosing mostly frozen fruits I never choose frozen avocados. It is better fresh, trust me. You can also add some vanilla extract for flavor.

Dairy Free Options: Instead of using milk, you can use soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk because it still makes your avocado smoothie yummy.

For this Avocado smoothie recipe you are going to want to use the following ingredients;

  •  a blender
  • 2 cups of ice cubes
  • 1 cup – 2 cups of your milk of choice or Greek yogurt for a more creamy texture
  •  Ripe avocados
  • Your choice of a sweetener for added taste (recommended)
  • Protein powder or vanilla protein powder (recommended)
  • Frozen Blueberries and Bananas (recommended)
  • Peanut Butter and Almond Butter (recommended)
  • Cashews, flax seeds, chia seeds (optional)
  • Vanilla extract (optional)

Step 1

First, take the ice, sweetener, protein powder; other add-ins of choice and a cup or two of milk and put it into the blender. (If you want more healthy fats and calcium I would use whole milk). Blend these ingredients until smooth. If there are any chunks of ice keep blending unless you like a little ice. Personally, I like my smoothies blended until they have tiny little chunks for added texture.

Step 2

Then, put your fresh avocados in. I usually use 2-3 avocados so that I can guarantee that I am getting the sufficient amount of vitamins and omega-3s that I need. It is up to you how many you use.

Step 3

Blend the avocados into the milk/sweetener liquid you have made. To have the avocados mix well you might want to stir the smoothie a little after you blend the avocados.

Step 4: Enjoy your healthy smoothie!

Step four is the most important step in the process. Don’t forget to take a little time to step back and admire your work.

What Goes Well With Avocado In Smoothies?

What you eat alongside your avocado smoothie all depends on personal preference. For example, vegans might want to eat some of a spinach salad or a banana. We like to eat eggs and buttered toast with our avocado smoothies. Sometimes you just need the smoothie but other times you can be really hungry.

What Fruit Is Good With Avocado?

In our opinion, all fruits are good with avocados. That being said, we encourage you to experiment with all your favorite fruit varieties. Our favorite fruits to pair with avocados include blueberry, mango, banana, and sometimes kiwis.

We also like having nuts, granola, flax, and other nutritional items with avocados.

Do Avocado Smoothies Help You Gain Weight?

Avocado smoothies do help you gain weight especially if you pack them with other carbohydrates, and proteins etc. So they are great after a long workout or any exercise you do. Just try to avoid high amounts of sugar—and if you do add sugar, make sure it’s something natural like honey.

Final Thoughts On Making Avocado Smoothies

The avocado is a fruit or a vegetable? The avocado, or ‘aguacate’ as the Spanish speakers call it, is most definitely a fruit. There’s no doubt about it!
